Boca Raton Police Department Advises People to Stay Safe at Work

Written on February 23, 2013 at 4:56 am

Danburg Properties of Boca Raton, a leading developer and landlord of commercial, office and warehouse space in the area, agrees with the Boca Raton Police Services Department in advising area business owners, workers and guests to stay safe at work.

Decrease your chances of becoming a crime victim by following these tips:

– Park in well-lit areas under a light pole, if possible. You might begin your shift during the day, but you may have to return to your car after dark. Always parking near a light pole ensures good visibility as you walk to your car.

– Be aware of your surroundings and walk in groups. Criminals are less likely to target people in pairs. Pay attention to what is going on around you and if you see anyone suspicious, call police immediately! Keep our number (561-368-6201) plugged into your cell phone contacts.

– Vehicle break-ins are on the rise! Remove ALL items from your car and lock it up. Criminals target both locked and unlocked cars; if you leave anything in your car it may invite thieves to break in. Don`t secure purses and valuables in your vehicle: lock it up at work or leave it at home.

At your workplace, greet every customer/visitor and acknowledge their presence; let them know they`re being watched.

Watch out for distraction-style thefts that target employee`s valuables (purses, wallets, iPads, cell phones) AND bulk amounts of merchandise. KEEP REAR DOORS LOCKED AND CLOSED AT ALL TIMES!

Open and unlocked rear doors to businesses are targeted by criminals because they know employees utilize rear doors for breaks, taking out the trash, and exiting. These activities should be limited after sunset. Use the front door if possible, or look through a peephole before you exit. All nighttime exterior activities should be done in pairs.

DO NOT open the rear door to ANYONE. All visitors should be directed to the main entrance using signage. NO EXCEPTIONS. All business doors should be kept locked after-hours.

Call 911 or 561-368-6201 right away if you see vehicles circling the parking lot, people wearing clothes that conceal the head and/or face, or people loitering or walking between parked cars, looking in windows, or lifting door handles.
