Florida Sheriff’s Offices, Danburg Properties Distributing Social Media ‘Smart Cards’

Written on September 27, 2012 at 6:29 am

Sheriff’s offices from across Florida have begun distributing Social Media ‘Smart Cards.’ Designed for kids and adults alike, they offer safety tips and practical advice on how to use the most common social media services safely and securely. The four Smart Cards cover FacebookTwitterLinked In and Google+ (click on the links to open the documents).

They feature such safety tips as…

– Only connecting, following or friending people you know, and reviewing your list of connections frequently.

– Establishing smart account and privacy settings to ensure how much of your profile information, photographs and status updates can be viewed – or even uploaded in the first place.

– Getting alerts when you’ve been mentioned in someone else’s post.

– Even never posting images of yourself or posting images from your smart phone, as together, they can identify who and where you are.

Danburg Properties of Boca Raton has posted all four of these cards to help spread the word about online safety and security. Download each card individually. Then, forward them – or share this blog post – with your family and friends, especially kids you may know who use social media. The world can be a safer place – including the online world.
