From Canines to Road Trips to Reading a Book, What’s Your Passionate Pursuit?

Written on March 14, 2013 at 4:44 am

At Danburg Properties of Boca Raton, we’re known as a developer and landlord of more than a million square feet of class-A office space and warehouse locations throughout southern Palm Beach County.

But we’re also known as the owners of London the Standard Poodle – a remarkable dog who’s closing in on 100 lifetime bests in show from competitions nationally. He’s also a great source of pride around our offices.

Which got us to thinking: What role does a passionate pursuit of [insert a hobby or pastime here] play in people’s lives? Not only do we invest financially in London’s exploits, we’re emotionally “invested” in this very special dog. We follow his success online, frequently are getting updates from his handlers, and have found tremendous joy traveling to dog shows – whether the Eukanuba World Challenge in Orlando or the Westminster Kennel Club in New York City.

Some people run, cycle or hit the gym. Some cruise in their ragtop or hit the highway on their motorcycle. Some travel the country in their RV – or the world sampling exotic cuisines, tasting rare wines, or photographing sights unseen (at least to them). Audiophiles gather terabytes of favorite or rare music, or road trip to concerts. Antique, art or artifact collectors can spend thousands – or millions – seeking out and amassing their collections.

Baseball fanatics can become irrepressible enthusiasts – following their home team or touring ballparks nationwide.

Some simply prefer to crack a book or power up the Kindle and lose themselves in literature.

Some who have enjoyed success enjoy giving their riches and time away in support of local charities or philanthropies. In Boca Raton, there’s no shortage of names on that list.

Even in business, successful executives find meaning in their work. It’s not just about signing a contract or earning revenues or profits. It’s the process of getting there adds a greater level of reward. For a developer like Danburg Properties of Boca Raton, the reward is in the process. It’s identifying a piece of property, negotiating and acquiring it, then developing it to its highest and best use. Ideally, such use will bring value us as the developer and our tenants, as well as improvement to the area community.

The pursuits are different; the result often is the same. These activities bring meaning to our lives. If “variety is the spice of life,” then the search for the a new distraction or accomplishment enriches us in many ways.

Tell us: What pastime do you pursue that brings emotional gratification to your life?
